I was visiting my son in Des Moines for Thanksgiving. I looked for a hotel that would offer a dinner for the 2 of us and found Prairie Meadows Hotel and Casino had both. The cost was $60 per person for a 3 course dinner. I chose the salad for course one and that was tasty, the the traditional turkey dinner for course two. The turkey, gravy, and potatoes were all good, but not exceptional. The stuffing was pure mush, not tasty and no texture. I was very disappointed to have paid $60 for a very average meal. The dessert, an apple tart with ice cream was very good and the best part of the meal. Service was good and the ambience was very nice, but I felt the price was out of whack.

We went for Thanksgiving. I had the turkey dinner which was fine. My wife said her fish had no flavor. Service was slow, but it was a holiday so that has to be expected. The next day it was very slow and few people were there. Service was a little bit faster. The food was the main issue. AJ's is on the pricey side and my wife's steak was overcooked, the lobster was like rubber and almost inedible, her baked potato was ice cold as were my mashed potatoes. We let the server know and she said "sorry" but did nothing at all. For those prices, that should not happen and if it does, something should be done. We didn't make a fuss, but you asked me and this is my response. The food in the concession area of the casino as well as the breakfast/lunch in the hotel was really great with great service and not nearly as pricey. I enjoyed the casino and all the other places to eat, but I wont be going to AJs again.

AJ’s definitely has the freshest salads in town. I definitely recommend the 8oz Filet minion cooked medium rare,

I never got this great of service before. I was please with the food and service. A manger even came and ask how was everything and our waitress was amazing. I will differently come back.

My wife and I had the mozzarella sticks which were so off the best I’ve had and I’ma mozzarella stick snob. Filet was cooked to perfection and could cut with a fork. We also had the chocolate cake. Although we were stuffed full it was too good not to finish. A+ to AJ’s
