Nice experience, different type of dining. We did 5 tapas choices and one entree and 2 desserts for 4 people. Service was not good, though. The waiter did not seem to understand English well and brought us one of the wrong appetizers, forgot the coffee, had to ask for milk with coffee and kept disappearing although he was very nice.

Tapas were amazing, especially the Pulpo a la Gallega (the most tender octopus I've ever had). For dessert, the flan was excellent, but the red wine pear desert was even better.

Alcala was a bit of a disappointment. We had to sit outside because the restaurant had one huge table of about 20 men taking up a large part of the space and they were quite loud. However, after looking at the inside of the restaurant, outside was more desirable than inside - there was NO ambiance inside of the restaurant - bright lights, stark walls, and quite frankly, a bit dingy looking. I’m sure service is usually better but the service staff (of 2) was overwhelmed with the huge table plus all of the many other smaller tables of guests. Food was fine but we have had much better at other Spanish restaurants around town. A disappointment, for sure.

I really enjoyed eating at this restaurant on a recent business trip. It has a casual, neighborhood vibe. Staff were friendly and helpful. The food is definitely the star of the show. The pan con tomato with salmon and sardines was outstanding as were the mushroom stuffed crepes; the steak with cheese was fantastic and we really enjoyed the albondigas. Wine options are limited - my colleague had the white sangria which she loved and my dinner special white wine was good too.

Relatively small and very nice place, really remind us of Spain . Authentic fresh and flavorful food in the authentic environment.
