    Every time we come to Williamsburg we plan a dinner at Berret’s. The food is excellent and we especially recommend the parchment paper special. It never disappoints! The waitstaff is top notch and today Channing took excellent care of us. We do recommend always making a reservation.

    I had she crab soup and crab cake covered with Swiss cheese, tomato and bacon. A cup of fruit salad my side. All was delicious. My companion had a generous portion of fish and chips. Dessert was a brownie with ice cream which was more like fudge. A little too rich for me, but that is a preference not a problem. The other dessert was their bread pudding ala mode which tasted delicious but more like a slice of French toast than a pudding. No bread and butter before meal. Ambiance was lacking with plain walls and of all things, on a cold January day, the fireplace was “broken.” The glasses were spotted and the coffee cups needed a good bleaching. It was cold in the building like the general atmosphere. Service by Mark was excellent. They acknowledged a birthday with a candle in one of the desserts and a small take home bottle of champagne. The staff were very friendly.

    Every time we go to Barret's it is wonderful! If you like fried shrimp, get the "Shrimp Two Ways" but ask for both to be fried.

    Food was great; waiter was attentive and polite. Ambience meh mostly due to lighting. I was expecting to get the third degree it was so bright. Install a rheostat and dial down the harsh white light.
