Café Berlin has been serving authentic German cuisine on Capitol Hill since 1985. It occupies the ground floor of three townhouses whose front yards serve as Biergarten for outdoor dining. The interior features a small bar and two cozy dining rooms. The restaurant is located within a short walking distance of Union Station and the U.S. Capitol. It draws politicians, congressional staffer, and tourists as well a loyal following of neighborhood residents. The traditional dishes are authentically prepared with lighter touch by chefs with extensive experience in German cuisine. In addition to the regular menu, the restaurant offer seasonally changing menus that feature fresh asparagus in the spring, salads and light fares in the summer, Bavarian dishes during Oktoberfest in the fall, and wild game in the winter. Desserts which are freshly made in-house include apple strudel, black forest cake, and luscious cream tortes. The bar offers a selection of imported German beers and wines.

From the moment we stepped inside we were greeted with warm hospitality and a charming European-style ambiance that makes us feel welcome. The menu offers a good selection of traditional German dishes, from hearty bratwurst and schnitzel to delicious potato pancakes and freshly baked pretzels. The flavors are rich and authentic, and the ingredients taste fresh and high-quality. We tried the sauerkraut balle and the stroganoff were fantastic!     Old inside, musty smell and tried to collect $10 more dollars for restaurant week lunch. When I sat down I was given the restaurant week menu with no price. The server made sure he commented the charge was $35. I immediately told her the website states $25. She said she would talk with the manager. When the bill came it was billed at $35. I pulled up their website and showed the server and asked for the manager. The manager never came but did take the $10 off. You always need to keep the restaurant week menu and price on your phone. This overcharge has happened to me before at other restaurants.

    I always have the Wurstfeast with sauerkraut and Mac & cheese. If you are a German sausage lover like me, this is the greatest. I lived in Germany for two years and Cafe Berlin makes me feel like I’m back there

    We had a great meal -- it had been awhile since we had eaten there and the food was really delicious and thoughtfully prepared. Seasonally inspired and reflected authentic German cuisine. Really lovely hospitality, too.

    Service was a delight. Everyone was so friendly. Food was absolutely amazing! Apple Strudel for dessert was so good! Highly recommend Cafe Berlin!
