                                                                Managers changed menu prices mid meal. Posted menu outside wasn’t changed after they claim a $7 miss print on an appetizer. They stole from me once and they’ll never get me again.

                                                                Cafe Degas is my favorite French restaurant anywhere, no exceptions. I live in Chicago, but I make sure to eat at Degas any time I visit New Orleans. They are one of the very few restaurants that serves a Floating Island for dessert. It’s a glacier made of meringue literally floating on a sea of crème anglaise with toasted almond slices and a drizzle of caramel. You cannot go wrong with anything on the menu, including the specials. Of course they excel at the classics like escargots and hangar steak, which is sublime, and the cocktails are creative without being silly. Also, the waitstaff has always been wonderful. On Sunday, Feb 23rd we were lucky enough to have Chad, an engaging young man with beautiful hair who provided deft, elegant service. His recommendations were spot-on, and we were impressed by his knowledge of food generally and events in the city. By the time we left it felt like we were old friends. I hope he’s there next time we visit.

                                                                Came early for our reservation, which wasn’t a problem. Service seemed rushed. Liunch wasn’t busy, and seemed like the server wanted to rush us. Had a bottle of wine and was followed up with our appetizers. Within a few minutes of ordering our appetizers, the server rushed to get our mains. Once our appetizers arrived, it was no more than 10/15 minutes when our entrees arrived. We were only halfway through our appetizers. Had to use the table behind us, so we could put some of the table decor and excesss plate ware. Though I over tipped, being in the service industry, the service needs to do better.
