Located in the revitalized East Village and housed in the historical Simmons Building along the Bow River, charbar is spearheaded by executive chef Jessica Pelland with the support of co-owners and chefs Connie DeSousa and John Jackson. This locally-relevant and globally-inspired restaurant partners with Sidewalk Citizen Bakery and Phil & Sebastian Coffee Roasters to create a collaborative and communal destination. The restaurant features an ultra-dry aged Alberta beef display, a meandering ceviche raw bar, and riverfront and rooftop patios. At its heart is a custom-made Argentine wood-fired grill honouring the art of asado and the culinary inspirations of Spain and Italy.

    Came in last night, and I had a reservation for 9:45. I waited in front for 30 minutes no one even greeted me and my date just ignored us, then we proceeded to get put into a wait list even though we had a reservation. Finally got the table after 45 minutes of waiting.. was seated ordered a pizza and 2 steaks took an hour for food to come out. Terrible service food was amazing though would go back again 7.5/10

    Will is the best server. They were extremely backed up because of Valentine’s Day. But Will would always come check on us to make sure everything is alright!

    Usually this place is wonderful I think Valentine's day was just a very bad day for them. They were behind an hour on reservations and after being there for two hours we still did not get any of our food. I would still recommend this place but not for Valentine's day.

    Food was incredible. Definitely recommend the table side ceviche - incredible. Will, was our waiter; knowledgeable, charismatic, and genuine. He was a phenomenal host for the evening.

    We had reservations for 8:30 PM. They were moving us around from downstairs to upstairs to downstairs again to finally actually get seated. We were then sat at 9:30 PM. We didn’t get our food until 10:30 PM. This was such a poorly disorganized Valentine’s day event. They took too many reservations to get the money and completely disregarded the customer experience. Such an awful first impression. Our server was nice, definitely the poor management style gives everything 1 star but the food.

    We had reservations at 8:15, we got there exactly on time . The line up was crazy to the outside , by the time they got us in it was almost 9 . We sat upstairs then they moved us downstairs. The food took forever to come we ended up having dinner at 11. The service was so bad . Place was super busy and the food was over spicy my husband got a crazy heartburn when we left . The ambiance is nice and the place is nice but our experience was super bad .

    Did not eat. Won’t go back. Showed up for 8pm reso, waited 40 mins standing, no table, no communication, 30+ other people also waiting. They grossly overbooked, greedy. There was ZERO communication, no prioritization of reservation times. Poor lighting - very bright. Called Mercato Mission and they fit us in and we got there in 10 mins - 11/10 recommend Mercato.

    Had a reservation at 7:30pm (booked two weeks in advance), stood in a queue until 8:00pm to be shuffled to a waiting area (not told it was a waiting area) and then seated in a brightly lit area that looked like a makeshift dining room, right beside the server booth and beside a bunch of unused tables and boxes. Watched the same thing happen to every single group of people who came in for reservations after us (at least 20 groups)… clearly overbooked and poorly managed. We were told “people aren’t acknowledging their reservation window”. None of the staff we encountered was remotely friendly albeit, they were likely overwhelmed. The food was fine but for the price it’s nothing extraordinary. The whole thing could’ve/should’ve been handled better by charbar. Normally wouldn’t review but this is the second time this has happened here.

    Reserved seats at the bar, suggest not eating there. It’s a serving station with no atmosphere. Ended up ordering to go. Food was good tho.
