  • Neighbourhood gem
  • Great for creative cocktails
  • Good for special occasions
Charcoal Venice is an inviting neighborhood restaurant from Michelin-starred Chef and Owner Josiah Citrin that was inspired by the backyard barbecues he hosts on weekends for his friends and family. As the name suggests, everything is cooked indoors over live fire – whether over charcoal or in the coals. Citrin and Chef de Cuisine Dani McNish prepare a seasonal menu of craveable comfort foods featuring locally-sourced proteins and vegetables ideal for sharing family-style. Whether diving into a platter of smoky grilled chicken wings with a beer or classic cocktail at the bar, or splitting a 48 oz. dry-aged Porterhouse and a bottle of Bandol with friends, Charcoal Venice is an everyday dining spot.

Food was very good but steak was not warm by the time it arrived to the table. Plates were not switched out on time between food. No one checked in on meal or drinks throughout the meal. Mushrooms and wings were very tasty. Service could have been better.

We always have an amazing time here, Charcoal remains one of our top restaurant choices for almost 9 years since we moved to the westside. Thank you, Josiah! Thank you, Erick and Charcoal fam!

Good food! I enjoyed the experience. It wasn’t too loud. The steak was very rare for me though and same w the salmon on the Dine LA menu

Charcoal was a really great experience. We went for Dine LA and were blown away by some of the dishes. The salmon was sadly very under cooked (I’m picky!) but otherwise absolute perfection. Get the cosmo here - so good!

Just bad. Maybe just the dine la menu but for a meat place, it’s weird when the vegetables were the only edible/mildly enjoyable foods. Salmon was essentially raw. I usually like my fish and meats medium rare but this was basically a pile of pink mush. Saw many other people not eating it as well. Yucky.

Wonderful experience. Our waiter, Sara, was super attentive, fun, and creative with suggestions. Thank you also to Tony, our diligent bus man, and Erick, the amazing bartender, for leveling up our experience. Of course it wouldn’t have been a true dining experience without the unique talents of Chef Johnny and owner Josiah Citrin. We can’t wait to go back!

Its always excellent food! The steaks are perfect, with lots of flavor, tender and juicy. The sides (baked potato, salad, broccoli and sourdough bread) were perfect accompaniments! My husband alo loved the chicken wings for starters and the lamb starters are good too (pricey for the pieces you get). It was NYE so it was busy and our server was too busy. They accidentally threw out some of our leftovers we would have had wrapped; expected a comped dessert or something, oh well, to be expected on a busy night.
