Review summary

AI-generated from verified diner reviews
Christiana Campbell's Tavern offers a delightful blend of history and dining in Colonial Williamsburg. Guests rave about its "fantastic atmosphere" and "delicious food," with standout dishes like the seafood pye and crab cakes. The live period music and attentive service from staff like Timothy and Amanda enhance the experience, making it a must-visit for both history buffs and food lovers. However, be prepared for a "pricey" menu, and check options in advance for kids or specific dietary needs. Overall, it's a memorable step back in time with culinary charm.

Campbell's is a nice experience when visiting Colonial Williamsburg. You get that old tavern vibe dating back centuries. I tried to request a table upstairs, where we have dined before. There was no table available upstairs and we were seated in a dining room to the right of the foyer. The room felt a little cramped with the number of tables in it, but if memory serves me, I think all of the dining rooms are tight. That said, Campbell's features a fairly limited menu. We chose the number one seller, The Seafood Pye and the Crab Cakes. Both dishes are very good. My salad was good and my wife's soup was very good as well. Desserts included the Trifle of the day and the Apple Pie with Vanilla Sauce. Both, again, were delectable. Another highlight is that you will have a wandering musician playing at some point in the evening. Our server was Darren and he was outstanding. All in all, it's a nice experience but would have been better in another room. Food is expensive but you don't leave hungry. Reasonable drinks given you are in a resort restaurant.

Our server could not have been more friendly, knowledgeable, and efficient. The food was OUTSTANDING! My wife's "Fish Pye" was EXCELLENT! My strip steak was perfectly cooked as ordered, and the savory seasoned meat complimented the herbed butter topping! The house specialty cocktails were above average from the usual fair my wife and I experience in restaurants in this price range. The muffins are DEFINITELY UNIQUE part of the dining experience! We will return!

How horrible! This was their Christmas dinner with a few menu options that was prepaid AND gratuity was prepaid. There was 1 waitress for our entire room. She didn't check on us but just dropped the food off. Food was cold and undercooked! And we were constantly last served and waitress said they reversed the tickets so that was why. Just less than stellar experience for the amount we paid! Be ware!

Lovely surroundings and a lovely server. Poorly managed kitchen though. We had a prix fixe dinner with a limited menu. It took 2 hours after ordering to receive our main course. Diners who arrived after us finished their desserts and were leaving by the time we were served. We then found out (at 11pm) that the dessert we ordered at 8:30 pm was not available. Our meal was prepaid prix fixe so there was no way to remove items from our bill. Food was meh. Once again, our server was at no fault. We will be back for Williamsburg illumination next year but we will skip Christiana Camobells tavern.

This was the worst experience. I have been to this restaurant before and enjoyed it. How for the pre fixed Grand Illumination, the food was cold and tasteless. It took 2 full hours to even get muffins. After three hours, we asked to skip desert and have a check. Food was dropped, plates shattered to the floor 3 times during the meal. Pease soup was cold and awful.

Lovely experience: food, service, atmosphere. Had to leave before the roaming musician made it to our table, so missed that experience by a couple minutes (they go room-to-room).

Excellent server very attentive the substituted sweet potato muffins for the spoon bread were most welcome Crab cakes were good as always. Lovely vegetables surprised they were out of the soup on a very cold night. The only disappointment was the rainbow trout, where the fish could not be found under the iron breading.

Excellent way to enjoy dining in a Colonial inn. Food and service was excellent with historical information being shared by Tim ,our waiter. Period music was provided by a gentleman on 3 different instruments. Highly recommend for all.
