   Our first stop after landing at TPA was The Columbia in Ybor City. This was the first visit for our adult grandson, but I was first taken there as a child 75 years ago. The Columbia is ageless. The food is outstanding. Grandson had grouper with crab; my wife chose the Pollo Manchego and I had a delicious mixed plate with pork shoulder, beef, chorizo, yuca and plantanos. Our server, Yarek, could not have taken better care of us. He was attentive and kind, and provided great insights on the Columbia’s history and the generations that have led it. I never miss a chance to visit ant Columbia location. But the Ybor City location is special.

   We decided to have dinner along with the beautiful show. I had the steak Palomia, which was absolutely delicious. It’s a thin cut of steak with diced onions, yellow rice, and sweet plantain. I also enjoyed a lovely Chardonnay Adelita. He was incredibly smooth and hit all of the perfect notes. I highly recommend the restaurant literally was the meal delicious but the performance was absolutely incredible.

   A beautiful historical restaurant with lovely Cuban influences. Very busy, but did not wait long for food. Our waiter was friendly and attentive. The food was delicious from the Cuban bread to the salad and soup to the entrees we ordered. Excellent! And dessert! Yummy! It was worth the visit while on vacation with in the Tampa area.

   We chose to take friends who had never been there for dinner because it was always an exceptional experience and very delicious food. We had a reservation and got right in on time at 6:00. We were disappointed at how long it took to get everything, waited probably 20 or more minutes to just get bread and drinks! Our waiter was very friendly, but was either stretched too thin with tables or kept forgetting things for us. My husbands glass of water had lipstick stuck to the rim (no biggie) but had to ask about 4 times for a new glass! The Spanish bean soup is his favorite so we recommended it to our friends and the beans were kinda hard,not cooked long enough. When we finally got our main dish, two of them were cold, the yellow rice was kinda cold and hard, and one was just “warm”. We returned two and they brought out a new entree fairly quick but was kinda dried out. We apologized to our friends and said , this was usually a very top notch place! I am so surprised at the level of quality for such a great place. We usually have a very nice experience with great food. We will definitely try it again, but I hope they are not going downhill like so many places do. When you spend a lot of money, and are disappointed in the experience, it is frustrating!
