- YYardenLondon •2 reviews5.0Dined 1 day agoEasily one of the best dinners we’ve had For starters we had the shishito peppers (addictive), the chicken satay (it was so good I ordered another one for “dessert”), the pork dumplings and the wagyu yakitori For mains we took the spicy yellowtail sushi and the miso black cod And for dessert (after the extra chicken satay) we took the chocolate cake which was sensational Everything was unbelievably good Our waitress was super nice but I felt like she had too many tables, so it was hard to find her when we wanted something. We saw her maybe 3 times during the whole dinner The atmosphere in the restaurant was great, good music and amazing vibe. I thought it would be a tourist trap with mid food, instead the food was top tier, skillfully done, with flavors nicely straddling traditional Chinese American and more authentic Szechuan. I expected the drinks to be overpriced and middle shelf at best, and instead the Mai Tai was the freshest pineapple based cocktail I've ever hat a restaurant, and the Matador was a sharper, more tequla forward option that was just as impressive. I expected the service to be impatient, wanting to turn tables or upsell, and instead it was attentive, careful, and completely supportive. The atmosphere I expected to be tired and overhyped, instead it was a spectacle of historic fabric so well cared-for, lovingly maintained, and immaculate that it may very well be the best vintage restaurant and bar experience on the West Coast.
