Modavie is rock-solid. There's even some rock involved. Well, on this particular evening it was a 20s scat band, and a talented one at that. But for tables like ours, seated right next to the band, you'd better love that music--or whatever music's on offer--or you're going to be trying to talk over the band the whole time. Not entirely pleasant. But onto the pleasant things: A lot of emphasis on lamb dishes, wow. But for those of us who ordered it, the dishes were en pointe. Some pasta dishes on offer, with the cavatelli firing on all cylinders. Great wine selection: We landed on two French 2018s, Alain Brumont's Chateau Montus (an absolute treat), and a Rothschild stablemate, Chateau Clarke (still young and brooding, but with distinguishable excellence-in-waiting). Service was very attentive and helpful. Ambiance, aside from the seating right next to the upright bass player, was fantastic. This was actually my second day in a row at Modavie; the day prior I sat at the bar near the front entrance of Modavie. Loved that side of the restaurant as well. Great and kind service at the bar then, too. This is a will-go-back, will-recommend Montreal staple. If it's not an Icon, it ought to be. The team at Modavie knows how to deliver a rich experience.

We were hungry so we ordered the seafood pasta...sadly there were 3 medium shrimp, 8 bay scallops, and some mushrooms on a not too large serving of properly cooked spaghetti pasta...I asked for parmesan cheese and was happy to have a bowl of grated parmesan brought to the table. It added a nice flavour to the dish. However, it was still a very small portion for $34.00. Our request for ice cream for dessert was delivered as 3 balls of vanilla with a little chocolate syrup added but the charge was $16.00 per serving. Our wine was over $100.00 and so our total bill for a simple meal was $200.00 plus with a tip.
