Buddy’s existed as a “blind pig,” skirting the State and Federal laws that governed the on-site sale and usage of alcohol. Booze was available there. The owner at the time was August “Gus” Guerra.

It's been 10 years since I have been to Detroit and I was glad to see El Barzon was still delivering great food and also amazing hospitality. Their service is so genuine which is so hard to find these days. They treat you like family so it was awesome to take my family there. Always strong even a decade later.

One of the best Italian meals I’ve had in a while. Their pastas are to die for, which they make daily, as is their octopus starter which was soft, flavorful, and perfectly grilled. They have an option for pick-4 prix fixe and a tasting menu—we went for their prix fixe and came out stuffed. The ambience was relaxing, quiet, and perfect for a nice dinner out. Highly recommend!
