We are Montrealers and have dined at Bonaparte over the years, but are not 'regulars'. Last night we had another wonderful meal there, starting first by their warm welcome. I had asked for a table for two by the window where we were promptly seated. The restaurant is very pretty and is located on one of Old Montreal's charming streets. The whole experience feels like being in Europe. To start I shared mushroom ravioli with my sister which may be the best mushroom ravioli we have ever had. I then had the duck confit (leg of duck) and she had the beef bourgignon, both excellent. We shared a piece of their lemon pie (their signature dessert), which was delicious. They certainly know how to make great cocktails and my cosmopolitan was exceptional. My final comments would be about the prices: drinks and food, given the quality served, are very reasonable. And I would be remiss by not mentioning the service. The wait staff are top notch, and the food was served at a good pace. The tables are beautifully set (with tablecloths!) and well-spaced from on another, and the noise level is moderate and pleasant.

The service was outstanding, attentive but not intrusive. For instance, our coats were taken to a cloak room and brought back to us after our meal, the wobbly table was fixed instantly and the bread basket was replenished without having to ask! The menu has all the traditional offerings of a French bistro and each of us enjoyed the meals we were served. The charcuteries were particularly excellent. The meals were cooked as requested (steak, rognons, fish and boudin) and served on heated plates. We tried the private label wine (red) and found it quite good as well. Overall we had a lovely evening and one of the best restaurant experiences in a while. We will be back! Thank you!

The restaurant is in the lobby of a hotel. I was unaware of that. There are not a lot of tables. We came after looking at the menu and when ordering we were told the foie gras was not available. A BIG disappointment. So I ordered the octopus with chorizo. The presentation was well done, the taste and texture was excellent. I also ordered the duck. Again the presentation was nicely plated and the flavors were beautifully executed, but it was overcooked and tough. My wife had a pear salad that was very tasty and the lamb, which I thought was very gamey, my wife enjoyed it a lot. Also beautifully presented over a bed of couscous. The wine selection was not huge but had enough choices to make us happy. The service was excellent. Very attentive and pleasant.
