Burdell is a Soul Food restaurant in the Temescal neighborhood of Oakland from James Beard Finalist, Chef Geoff Davis.Named for and inspired by his maternal grandmother, Burdell, the restaurant reflects her love for well-set tables, entertaining guests, shared meals, and laughter. Burdell is centered on nostalgia, family recipes, thoughtful and sustainable sourcing, and the forgotten impact of Black farming, ranching, fishing, foraging, and culture on American cuisine and hospitality.     Delicious food that was deeply flavored and surprisingly bright (sometimes soul food can seem super heavy and overwhelming). A perfect brunch spot. I’m eager to bring others and to try their dinner menu. Chef and staff were very pleasant and professional.

    First time at this location. We waited 15 mins for a table even with a reservation but there was no one else waiting. Hostess was sitting with her feet up. The server, though nice, didn’t come greet us for a while, brought a wrong drink, didn’t show us a bill at the end and only stuck a machine in our hands. It’s hard to find a decent service/care in Oakland, another place who just wouldn’t take your money for granted, especially if a breakfast dish averages $17 and up.

    A wonderful dinner for Beaujolais Nouveau day. We started with salad verte and fried calamari followed by lobster bisque and ended with 1lb moule frites that all was in a garlic, wine & spinach sauce. We ended with a very large & delicious tart au citron with fresh raspberries. Thank you all.

    Love this location. Right across from the lake, so maybe a long walk before or after, right? Great lunch. The Brussels sprouts are delicious!
