General Public is inspired by trying to imagine what an upscale English pub would be if it had the heart of an American brasserie (and was open 11 to 11). It’s also going to signal a little bit of steakhouse, but not too much. And finally, it will look behind itself at the Black Hoof, which you will see reflected in James Santon’s menu here and there. In terms of vibe, the main floor is ‘everything’s gone green’, with lush comfortable banquette seating, warm wood, and barstools designed for long conversations over many cocktails. Upstairs you’ll find a completely different space that transports you to a peachy 80s dream. Linny’s has the best pastrami I’ve ever had, it melts in your mouth! The steak was cooked to perfection, the cesar salad was delicious, loved the fries and the oyster mushrooms. To finish off, they have a chocolate babka that’s to die for. Our waiter Sam was very nice and he is an amazing server. All the staff is very friendly including Blaze and Roy who work at the bar. The decor of the restaurant is lovely and it’s very clean! The ambiance is very warm and the jazz music they play is very lovely.

My boyfriend and I went here for our anniversary. We decided we would splurge a little and order more than usual to celebrate. The quality of the food was nothing like I’ve had before. Portions were perfectly size and food came out faster than expected. The ambience was not too formal and also perfectly romantic and not loud at all. We enjoyed the meal whole heartedly. Come bill time, we were both shocked at how reasonable the prices were and were expecting way more considering how much we ordered. 100% recommend
