Nestled in the heart of Ashtown Village, Dublin 15, overlooking the Royal Canal, The Lock Keeper can be found at Lock #10. Steeped in heritage, this double lock was constructed c.1792. With quality stonework and attractive sloping edges Lock 10 is one of 46 along the Royal Canal and continues to be a testament to the skill of the craftsmen involved. Our bar is adjacent to the Lock Keepers House, a post that became obsolete in 1961 when the canal was closed to traffic the previous year. The Royal Canal, which runs from the River Liffey to the River Shannon and stretches a distance of 145km, was originally built for freight and passenger transportation with the last working barges ceasing to operate in 1951.Now beautifully maintained by Irish Waterways, you are welcome to visit The Lock Keeper by canoeing, walking or cycling from Dublin City Centre. It was my sons 13th birthday and we where allowed to bring his cake and balloons. Staff made a lovely fuss of him and sang happy birthday. Eimear in particular was fantastic! When serving our food. She addressed my son by name and made sure the birthday boy got his meal first. Food was delicious and super friendly staff!

Really Good brunch menu. Pancakes fab and served with plenty of crispy bacon. Waffle dish was a small portion - just the one small waffle. Excellent coffee. Excellent service. Dog friendly (on the covered terrace). The down side was that we were the only diners, so atmosphere was lacking. Very good value for money though
