Founded in 1996 the ideas for the Marblehead Chowder House were actually hatched a few years before. Sitting at "The Barnacle," overlooking Marblehead Harbor one raw winter day, while the spume from the rough saltwater painted the windows and the Sam Adams Lager flowed freely, a concept was born. Casual, coastal and cozy - fresh seafood, fin fish, shellfish and hearty chowders in a warm, relaxing atmosphere that says "seaside" - a place that had tradition, patriotism, and a New England heritage about it. Fresh ingredients, house-made soups and chowders, comfort food with a twist freshly prepared to order were all musts! Features unique to New England were the foundation – Ipswich Belly Clams (aka steamers, softshells, pissers), fresh Lobster Roll, a Raw Bar with half-shell oysters and clams and, of course, live Lobsters arriving regularly.     Our first visit was a VERY busy night when everyone in the area had the same idea to visit at the same time for the outdoor patio area. Needless to say, they were slammed and it pushed our reservation back. HOWEVER!!! The team of managers did such a good job accommodating us, finding us main dining seating and ensuring our food was ready quickly, as we had our 8yr old with us. Also sat us with one of their most tenured servers who was a delight. Because of this, we wanted to give it another shot.... Went back tonight with friends and the entire experience from start to finish to ambiance to food to drinks to dessert to management and service staff..... ALL 10's! Would highly recommend!

    Service and food were excellent . More than enough variety on the salad bar with many extras you wouldn’t expect. All meat cuts were excellent . We were a party of 4 and we all enjoyed it. Will definitely go back.

    We were celebrating my sister in law’s birthday today and ate here. Morgan was our server and took great care of us. I was the only one with Celiac and was reassured that the food would be safe for me to have. We shared the chicken lettuce wraps as an appetizer. They tasted great. I ordered a chicken sandwich on a gluten free bun. It was very flavorful. My husband had the Moroccan salmon and my sister in law had a burger. The service was excellent! I felt fine from the lunch!
