Ospi is the sophomore restaurant of Jackson & Melissa Kalb, focused on Southern Italian cooking and way of life. The name derives from ospitante (“host” in Italian), with the expectation that guests will feel as comfortable at Ospi as they would at a friend’s dinner party. There will be plenty of house-made pastas as well as an expanded offering of pizzas. The beverage program crafted by Kalb features mostly Californian and Southern Italian wines and a full bar with a special negroni section. The fish and chips and crab claws were outstanding. We were there and got served fairly late and the shrimp appetizer was not great. In fact, we had to send it back. But they were cool about it. We sat in the bar instead of taking our table in the main restaurant and it was lovely and moody like the original dear John’s. Would return for happy hour where they actually have a burger we used to get at Dear John‘s back in the day.

SALT offers a beautiful venue. Due to outstanding weather we were able to dine outside. Service at times was a bit slow but the staff were pleasant, friendly and helpful. While we waited for our party to arrive we enjoyed drinks on the bar patio. The bartenders are awesome and mix excellent drinks. The food was outstanding. Most of our party ordered the chicken and French toast. So yummy! I enjoyed the salmon Benedict which was delicious and the eggs were perfectly done. I chose salad for my side and it was fresh and tasty.
