Soak up our friendly service and homely charm when nestled in this stunning roadside pub in the heart of Amble harbour town. Here at The Wellwood Arms, we are the perfect retreat to sit back, relax and indulge in our delicious food with the perfect drink in hand. Originally built as a farmhouse for Link House Farm, one of the three farms which made up early Amble, the pub is one of the oldest buildings in the whole of the town! Records dating back as far as 1842 show that the farm was owned by a Mrs Maria Wellwood - a possible explanation for the pub's name today! Our traditional pub classics are expertly crafted from our seasonal menus and the bar is crammed with local ales and tipples to tempt any taste buds. Using the most seasonal ingredients and decadent flavours, there's a dish for every desire. Turn your fleeting visit into a welcomed stay by resting your head in one of our four comfortable family ensuite rooms. 21 is a real gem of a restaurant. The food is fabulous and there's a lovely atmosphere. Although it was busy, the noise from other diners was not intrusive and there were plenty of staff to ensure you were well looked after. On that note, the staff are an absolute credit to the restaurant; friendly, chatty and smiley, whilst still being professional. They were attentive, without being intrusive, which is a real skill to master. Every member of staff from front of house reception, waiting staff, sommelier and bar staff, helped to make our visit a thoroughly enjoyable experience. Not sure why I haven't been here before, perhaps I thought it might be a little too formal but that's my mistake as it's not in the slightest bit stuffy, quite the opposite. I may have lost out on a wonderful place and some fantastic food over the years because of a misconception, but I plan on rectifying that error by going back as often as I can from now on.

Lovely roast dinner only spoiled by being swamped with so much gravy it was spilling over the plate! But the meat was lovely. We did not realise that the football would be on screens everywhere in the pub - we probably would not have chosen to eat there if we had known but that is not reallly a criticism - we just didn’t know and are not fans
