- OTOpenTable DinerNewcastle and Northumberland •2 reviews5.0Dined 2 days agoFantastic Sunday lunch again at Hibou. Service was friendly and efficient and as always the atmosphere and ambience were excellent. We were tempted by the oysters as a pre-starter and it was a great decision. They were well presented and super tasty. We had prawn cocktail, fish cakes and scotch eggs for starters and all were delicious. The mains of turkey and two pork were absolutely superb. Really good portions and the meat cooked perfectly. There were plenty of vegetables of broccoli, green beans and cauliflower. The Yorkshire puddings were fantastic and the gravy is some of the best we have had. Pigs in blankets were really nice too. With two pints, two large glasses of wine, an apple juice and the 10% service charge (fully deserved) the bill was just under £159 for three. The whole experience was fabulous and we are looking forward to going back in a couple of weeks.More infoHibou BlancPrice: Expensive• British• Newcastle upon Tyne•4.7
- HHarryHertfordshire •6 reviews5.0Dined 4 days agoTucked away close to Newcastle's thousand-year-old castle, the French Quarter is a gem that provides a memorable dining experience. It offers a harmonious blend of exceptional food, warm service, and an inviting ambience. The menu is thoughtfully curated, with French-inspired dishes that highlight a perfect marriage of flavours and freshness. On my visit, I began with an exquisite Rillettes de Porc with some off-menu toasted bread. I followed this with an indulgent Bœuf Bourguignon accompanied by a tangy Gratin Dauphinois and fresh Haricot Vert. The staff were an absolute delight—attentive, friendly, and passionate about their work. They were happy to make recommendations, explaining food combinations with detail and enthusiasm. Every interaction felt personal, adding an extra layer of warmth to my visit. The restaurant offered subtle touches of a French bistro, a cosy yet sophisticated charm. It's perfect for both intimate dinners and lively group get-togethers. It's not budget dining, but the quality of the food, impeccable service, and overall experience justify the cost. Portions are generous, and each dish feels crafted with care. Whether you're a fan of French cuisine or just looking for a memorable culinary experience, the French Quarter delivers on all fronts. I will certainly return.More infoThe French QuarterPrice: Expensive• French• Newcastle upon Tyne•4.8
