James Beard Award-winning Chef Andrew Black makes his way back to Skirvin Hotel to open his newest restaurant concept, Perle Mesta. The restaurant will be his first concept to open since winning a James Beard award as 2023’s Best Chef Southwest and will be located on the first floor of the historic Skirvin Hotel (One Park Avenue, Oklahoma City). Perle Mesta will offer breakfast, lunch, and dinner service and the cuisine will reflect Chef Black’s continued exploration of what he calls “possibility cuisine,” a concept he attributes to his style of cooking that explores and embraces the endless possibilities of ingredients, flavors, techniques, and cultural influences. Students who work in the on-campus restaurant are passionate about seeking a profession in the industry and are looking for real-world experience to prepare them for that future job.Each of our professional chefs who work in the kitchen with students has at least over a decade of experience in the field, and some have multiple decades. Jason Marsh and Bill Leib have worked in a variety of culinary settings: restaurants, hotels, and catering businesses for events with thousands of people in attendance. They also bring a love of various cuisines and cooking styles, from Chef Bill’s Asian cuisine specialty to Chef Jason’s enjoyment of Southern Style cooking. They construct a curriculum with the District 21 menu in mind, ensuring a variety of experiences and flavors for both student chefs and dining patrons.

    We reserved a table for Christmas Day dinner. It was outstanding! Valet parking was included with validation. The staff were warm and friendly, and added to the festive atmosphere wearing Christmas-themed attire. 4 course meal with plenty of options. The food tasted great and was custom paired with a different Napa Valley wine for each course. Best Christmas dinner I’ve ever had… and that’s saying a lot, considering I’ve had over 50 years of experience. Thanks for an amazing experience!

    We had an excellent server and the food was all absolutely delicious. Steaks were cooked perfectly for everyone, which is becoming a difficult feat to achieve. We were very happy with our experience.

    We went for the Mother’s Day brunch and the whole family loved the experience! The food was great, there were a lot of options for everyone & the live music was nice. The service was great too! I read some mixed reviews before we went, but it seemed like they had worked out a lot of issues they might have had at their first few events. I would go back again!
