Le Bellanico est une continuité du restaurant renommé de Chris Shepherd et d'Elizabeth Frumusa, le Aperto in Potrero Hill à San Francisco. C'est un restaurant de quartier situé dans le quartier de Glenview à Oakland. Le nom Bellanico est un dérivé des surnoms de leurs filles Bella et Nico.
