Cultivator Shoals is a neighborhood watering hole where classic cocktails and delicious bar food are served in a historical setting. Cultivator Shoals is also a rich fishing area on Georges Bank, established in 1929 where Rose Alley is now and frequented by the world-famous New Bedford Fishermen. We tip our hat to Howie Mallowes & Jay Lanagan who had the vision to remake Cultivator Shoals as an artisan cocktail bar and relocate to the Benjamin Taber Double House; a place that Melville lived in off and on. Our drinks are classic with modern twists, all hand-made to order, following time-honored techniques. Our beers are a rotating selection of local and regional craft brewers, our wine list is a highly curated selection of new and old-world bottles. Our food is chef-made from scratch; we serve bar food with a twist. Our friendly team is some of the best bartenders and chefs in the area. At Cult you will have a great cocktail, good conversation and delicious sustenance.
Way back in 1975, the Sail Loft lit the fire for Steve Silverstein, who went on to open nearly 40 restaurants. Located in the quintessential seaside village of Padanaram, it was the neighborhood place where you could get a good (strong) drink, chef prepared comfort food and relax in a convivial atmosphere with familiar faces. The Sail Loft was everyone’s favorite place; it was a hangout where some came for food and others for drink. When the Sail Loft became available in 2021, Steve jumped on the opportunity to take the wheel. Steve and his wife Judy transformed the Sail Loft into an elevated neighborhood restaurant with a distinct updated boatyard feel. The spot is nautical with a chef-driven yet approachable menu, a deep selection of spirts and an intriguing wine list. As with all of Silverstein’s places, while the food, drink and design are always top-notch, it is the warm hospitality that keeps ‘em coming back.

Inspired by Chef DeSouza’s love for culinary arts, our New Bedford retreat pays homage to the ocean's treasures and the essence of New England. Each dish reflects a blend of heritage, creativity, and commitment, featuring delights from Maine clams to fresh local sea scallops. Our Clam Chowder, Lobster Bisque, Kale Soup, Stuffed Quahogs, and a variety of other signature items have earned us numerous awards. Among our offerings, the Fish and Chips stands out as a beloved local favorite. More than a restaurant, we are a family dedicated to giving back to our community, building relationships, and honoring the spirit of New England. Whether you prefer a sun-lit meal on our heated, open patio, a snug dinner on our covered, heated deck, or a warm atmosphere inside at the bar or in a booth, we have the ideal spot for you. Conveniently located at the New Bedford - South Dartmouth border, just off the west ramp of the beautiful Cove walk, we are right across from the scenic Clark's Cove.
