Earlier still, in the 1700s, Elias Hughes operated a tavern for whalers on this site. It was the first tavern in Cape May.     We enjoyed dining from the new cafe menu for dinner. Our honey squash soup was wonderful and we both enjoyed our entrees, I had the skirt steak and my husband had the fresh pasta! We finished our lovely dinner with chocolate dessert which was very good. Thank you for offering this excellent value during the month of January.

    On December 28th, 2024 we had an excellent dinner at The Washington Inn. My wife had roasted wild mushroom soup, baked escargot, and the colors of the garden salad. I had 2 oysters and seafood cioppino. For dessert we shared Bananas Foster. All the food was excellent along with the service. This restaurant exudes old time Cape May quality and I am sorry we have not dined here more often. The bill came to $150 including tip.

    Service was good, everyone had a delicious meal but some of the table ordered one of the specials and the serving was very small. Other than that it was a fun night with good food.
