We are a BYOB sushi and ramen restaurant located in Old City, Philadelphia, serving traditional style sushi and ramen with a newfangled twist. Tomo was funded out of passion by two lifelong tomodachi (friends in Japanese): Sushi Chef Andy and Ramen Chef Steven.
Construit en 1890, le Max's Café accueillait autrefois un magasin de chaussures. En 1912, le 34 North Burlington Street fut rouvert sous le nom de Leisinger's Saloon et perdura pendant 25 ans, même lors de la Prohibition où il servait officiellement des boissons sans alcool. En 1937, le Leisinger's Saloon fut légué à des proches et renommé Max's Café, nom qu'il conserva pendant 65 ans. En 1977, un nouveau menu élaboré en toute simplicité à base de fruits de mer frais transforma le Max's Café en Max's Seafood Café. Le bâtiment voisin fut alors racheté pour pouvoir accueillir le nombre croissant de clients venant des deux rives du Delaware pour déguster, après une longue file d'attente, des crevettes, palourdes et flets frais, mais surtout des moules ! La réputation du Max's augmenta considérablement durant 22 ans avant que l'établissement ne tombe en décrépitude. Le bar-restaurant ferma ses portes en juillet 1998 et resta dans cet état pendant 2 ans et demi. Rénové à la fin de l'année 2000, le Max's Seafood Cafe rouvrit le 2 Juin 2001 et poursuit de nos jours sa tradition d'hospitalité, de fruits de mer d'une fraîcheur irréprochable et bien entendu de ses moules à la vapeur.
