A Traditional Derbyshire InnWith A Five Counties View! The Barrel Inn, a traditional Derbyshire country inn, dates back to 1597 and stands at the head of Bretton Clough, in the heart of the Peak District.Being one of only five properties in this small hamlet, on a table of land some 1300 feet above sea level, The Barrel Inn proudly claims to be the highest pub in Derbyshire. Its panoramic views of the majestic Hope Valley and the Peak District National Park are magnificent and on a clear day you are able to enjoy views over five counties. The pub serves a fine selection of well kept real ales and delicious, freshly cooked, mostly locally sourced food, every day.Old worldly charm - peaceful oak-beamed bar, real log fires, flagstone floors, studded doors in low doorways, beamed ceilings and polished copper and brass - have all been retained to enhance the overall charm and friendliness of the Inn.

A relaxed late afternoon/early-evening Sunday Christmas treat for four. Luckily they weren't too busy as we probably over stayed our welcome! Food first: There was a Sunday (Festive) Menu on, which didn't have too many options for mains, but didn't disappoint: Cauliflower soup, Salmon starters and the two roast dinners were excellent, and even the Fish and Chips were very good. Sizeable portions meant only one of the party could manage a dessert: Christmas Pudding with (I think) Creme Anglais was eagerly finished and described as "tasty: spicy with a good shot of booze". Nice selection of wines at reasonable prices: the women of the party had a New Zealand Sauvignon Blanc which was described as "ooh, that's nice"! Lovely setting, nice comfy settees for drinks, friendly staff - attentive but not overbearing. In hindsight, if we were being very, very picky, the large-ish downstairs room was a tad on the cool side but it's probably fine if it's busier (we ate at a fairly odd time, about 4.30 on a Sunday afternoon). All in all, we'd definitely recommend and will certainly return.

We ordered the pumpkin fritte and rocket salad for appetisers, the spaghetti with parsley, chilli and breadcrumbs, fettuccine with Cornish crab and the tomato and mozzarella pizzetta. We had heard good things and had obviously seen the Instagram hype but even still it exceeded expectations. Everything was 10/10. Best tiramisu I’ve ever had! We will be back.

Me and my friend had booked a table for my birthday. We had a really lovely time! Our waiter was ever so kind and welcoming! He suggested some very nice cocktails from the menu because we didn’t know what to pick. The food and atmosphere was fantastic. We had a fab experience!

This was the most amazing food in a perfect venue. They really have transformed this building into the most amazing restaurant. The service is some of the best we’ve ever experienced. We had some brilliant recommendations on food and wine and I can’t thank the team enough for a wonderful evening.
