Best Restaurants that are Worth The Drive in Duarte

Azabu is our go to for date night. The service is always great and the food is amazing. Highly recommend the Peruvian scallops, shishito peppers, carpaccio yellowtail and grilled octopus. The drinks are consistent and delicious, we will continue to visit and wouldn’t mind eating here weekly.

This experience was outstanding, my wife was diagnosed with celiac and since then is being very hard to dine together because of her condition. Most dining places do not specialize in catering for people like her, but they find it upsetting when you questioned their menu or cooking etiquette. Last night we were celebrating our 22 year anniversary and my birthdate, I found this place through Go Gluten Freely.com and they recommended this place as the best place. So without no hesitation I booked and drove 45 minutes to surprise my wife. You should have seen her face at the beginning and at the end and all the way home she spoke nothing but wonderful words, saying I found my haven on earth. Music, atmosphere, service, taste, and lots of smiles. Our server was wonderful, she even gave us a very tasteful dessert with vanilla ice cream with two gluten-free macaroons that said on each Happy Anniversary and Happy Birthday…what a nice touch! This place found two fans for life and thank you from the bottom of my heart for making helping me make my wife’s night and more future dates with my wife. Shirley Brasserie was a wonderful dining experience that paired the great atmosphere of the Hollywood Roosevelt Hotel with great food. The Restaurant occupies a quiet part of the Lobby area and is large enough to find seating but intimate enough to feel separated from other diners. The menu is spartan but focused, as is the wine list. The appetizers we had were first-rate and handsomely presented. I would recommend the chicken liver mousse, as it was special and hadn't seen it elsewhere. I consider myself an expert on duck and generally prefer it roasted, as many restaurants don't really have the expertise to properly sear it. Not true here. The duck was properly spiced and glazed and seared just right. For this style of preparation, I've not had better. The Shirley Brasserie is not inexpensive, but considering the quality of the food and service (which was also outstanding), I would rate it as a good value. Something for a special occasion.

Worth a visit for breakfast whether you're shopping the LA Flower Mart or not! I changed up and went with the shrimp n grits. The grits were better than most in town and the dish was flavor-packed! I could go for more grits in the serving though. My date had the crab benedict which she loved, with the exception of the biscuit. I had to agree, it was a little too dense. You can't miss with the chicken and waffles here. I also tried the Rose Mojito for the first time and the second time, lol! Really good, so be careful!
