An exceptionally stylish supper club, civilized speakeasy, a sophisticated saloon. Each of these "personae" is housed in a soaring two-story interior distinguished by a gently curving mahogany bar, fluted columns with ornate capitals, stunning original art, plush banquettes, cozy booths, starched linens, glittering glasses, and polished flatware. Overall, the ambiance is pure 1930's and 1940's - tasteful art moderne reminiscent of the glory days of Cunard and French Line ships. Fashionable and glamorous are the hallmarks. Trendy is simply not a part of the BIX culture. The clientele at BIX ranges from San Francisco movers-and-shakers to "savvy travelers" - owner Doug Biederbeck's term for the many diners in the know from out of town who patronize his establishment. I had not been in many years…but I remembered the food was great…and it still is. We were two…she had a salad, a soup and a chicken dish…she loved them all….I had the scallops scrudo…tender and mild for those who eat raw shellfish….the pork chop was outstanding, my drink was the last kiss…wonderful. Thank you to our primary server Maria for her guidance. Everyone was attentive…not overbearing. A beautiful dinner was had.

Went with family party of 7 which grew to a party of 9 as two driving up for Thanksgiving from LA we’re going to arrive in time. Restaurant was super flexible and able to accommodate us. Back area is listed as “outside” but feels like an indoor area, it’s covered and there are heaters that make it toasty. Great for groups. Food and service was excellent. Recommended!
