We serve food that, more often than not, accesses that part of our deepest soul where genuine expression can flow forth. We have always tried to give our food and service our best selves, as honest and vulnerable as we can muster. We strive to be a place where you might actually have a real connection; maybe with your server, maybe with your food or maybe with your possibly gracious host who is ACTUALLY glad you’re there.

Oh, you wanted a restaurant description? Sorry. Can’t really help you there. We’re not so big on labels. Our food is hard to nail down as we are constantly evolving and entirely seasonal and personal. We’ve used “Food you eat” as a tag line on occasion and that remains accurate. We could also describe it as “Food we really want you to eat”. When you’re here, tell us what you would call it.

    One of the great neighborhood-y restaurants of SF. Actually feels a bit like being in New England. Always excellent food and service, and a very creative menu. A family favorite.

    Superlative vegetarian meal in a cozy and relaxing setting. Great service once seated. We had to wait for our table but the gave us free wine so it was fine. Love this place!

    Everything we had was absolutely delicious and we were thrilled with the amount of gluten-free options. Our server Sammy was awesome. Can’t wait to go back! (We bought a loaf of seed bread to hold us over til then :)

    The kugel entree I had last night was the best vegetarian entree I ever had. I think it was even vegan. I enjoy the meats as well as the next American vegetarian food like this might change me.

    Four of us enjoyed everything about this experience - the delicious food with many unique choices, the professional, but friendly wait staff, the joyful atmosphere of diners all happy to be there. Love to now know about this restaurant. We were attracted by the Passover menu items and each one we ordered was authentic and delicious - chopped chicken livers, gefilte fish, matzo balls. three of us ordered the brisket, which was great. My main course of potato/leek kugel was to die for with all of the interesting added touches, such as butter beans.

    Been coming to neighborhood favorite firefly for years, and I’ve always loved it. This time, It was a cold night and we were outside and it was cold, despite having a fancy heater. The kitchen and service was slow, and my entree arrived on the cool side. I had sat outside before, but this time really felt literally and figuratively out in the cold and forgotten. I’ll give them another try but i can’t recommend taking and outside table. I think the food has slipped but still fine for a neighborhood place. We marked the reservation as a birthday but there was no acknowledgment… /shrug.
