Enjoy fresh seafood from Hawaii and fresh seafood flown in weekly from California, plus our signature Bucket of Fire and Volcano flaming drinks, all within walking distance to shops and historic sites.

A landmark (formerly the Ocean View Inn) and a local’s favorite Kona restaurant since 1934, the building housing The Fish Hopper has been beautifully restored to expand upon its spectacular ocean views. We proudly serve seafood from sustainable sources, harvested by methods that do not harm the environment.

Driveway to parking is on the RIGHT side of the building when you look at it from the ocean. OR, it's to the right of the main entrance and coffee shop. Parking is available up the driveway, it's lighted for ease in the dark. There are also handicap spots where there is ramp access to the back of the dining room.

We did not have a great experience at the Fish Hopper. We arrived early and were seated promptly at a window table. Our drinks were not great, especially my husband's watered down old fashion. The chowder was very thick but far from the best chowder I have had. My monchon fish dish was yummy but my husband's Mac crusted Mahi Mahi was very dry. He thought it was pre-frozen fish! The lady at the table next to us had to send back her steak because it was med well instead of med rare. They did comp us a dessert, the creme brulee which was perfect. Very nice atmosphere when we started our dinner but by thime the tables were full it gets very noisy. We had a very attentive server.

The waitress unexpectedly told us we had to order before we were ready. She also charged an extra 40 percent—20 for being 7 people and 20 for waiter. She brought hot water but no cup for the tea. She did not bring extra napkins so we had to ask a different person. Overall, it was an unpleasant experience and we may never eat there again even though we are weekly customers.

The Fish Hopper is one of our go-to restaurants in the Kailua Kona area because the quality of the meals is always very good, the service is attentive and polite, and the location overlooking Kailua Bay is spectacular. On our last visit, a pod of Hawaiian Spinner dolphins was displaying just off the local pier. The Monchong w/creamy risotto is a fabulous dish, and the filet is easily the 10oz they list and always done to the ordered temperature. You may bring your own wine, if not on their list, and corkage is $25. But, save room for their desserts....a tray of "you can't pick a wrong one" treats that are hand-made and well worth ending the meal properly. A stop worth making if in the area!

Upon arrival we were greeted with service and attention of a guest. Food and drinks fabulous. Daniel our server was great, I asked if he was working the weekend so we would come back, unfortunately he was not. But coming back anyway. PB

Parking a little rough, only a dozen spots behind the place. Had to luckily run into a free paid lot about a block away behind the establishment after dropping off the party - on the next street. Asked for a booth on OpenTable but when arrived, got placed in a back area booth. Two booths then opened up right after seating, and I politely asked, but refused to move us. Food was pretty good.

It starts with easy free parking (rare in Kona). And then you are sitting overlooking Kailua Bay: up close and personal. Absolutely beautiful. Service is friendly and efficient. Food is fresh, well prepared and delicious. Ono is a delicious fish and it’s often under cooked or over cooked. I rarely order in restaurants. I always order it at Fish Hopper. They get it right every time. And their fish and chips are made from Ono, not cod. The result is unique and delicious!

We love the Fish Hopper. We make it a point to go there every time we are on the island. Last night I had the Seafood Risotto. It was fantastic!!! The drinks, food and atmosphere is what makes the Fish Hopper a great place to relax, unwind and enjoy the Aloha Spirit!!
