Before the short, stout, handle-and-spouted teapot of today, there was just a bowl; a simple clay Chinese vessel that was made to hold and infuse tea leaves in hot water, before it was poured through a hole or strainer. It took until the 16th Century for the first actual teapot to appear, in Yixing, China: a town now famed for its teapots.

Always great food and experience! Fortnum has great service and it’s a great option for a traditional afternoon tea.

While the food (especially the scone) is good and delicious, they can pay more attention to details …for example the teapot came with tea stains and scratch marks ( we are group of 4, all 4 teapots had tea stains and scuff marks). I am not sure that’s acceptable for a company that sells high end china/tea set and offer fine afternoon tea experience. This is my 5th visit over 10 years, I would say the overall quality has declined but is still worth a visit for the experience if you are a first time tourist in London.

The Jubilee Tea Salon is an absolutely gorgeous location with beautiful teas and delicious sandwiches, pastries and scones! The price is high but the experience is classic and makes for a wonderful English High Tea!

Perfect! Everything we wanted to experience in London while traveling with our daughters, ages 21 and 16, from the States. Beautifully decorated, fresh peonies at every table, the staff was fantastic, table wear was elegant, and the look of the menu pleasing to the eye and easy to read. We chose the 230 timeslot, perfectly situated between breakfast and dinner. All of it gave us the experience we were hoping for. Additionally, being inside Fortnum & Mason was also special. My husband wore a tie and us girls wore dresses, but we saw all different types. We chose the 2:30 timeslot, perfectly situated between breakfast and dinner. I highly recommend this tea experience!

My favorite experience in London! Afternoon tea at Fortnum and Mason was a cornerstone of our trip. Our sever was incredible and took notes of things we ate quickly and offered to bring more. He educated us on the teas and the options overall. The ambiance is exactly what we were hoping for. The food was delicious. The coronation chicken finger sandwiches were our favorite!! It’s definitely pricey, but for us it was worth it. I was so stuffed when I left. He made sure we each had our own dessert plate so we didn’t have to share. 10/10 for us and I can’t wait to take my daughter here when she is older!
