Disappointing! Just no atmosphere. Impersonal. Ok food barely.

It’s an unusual venue but very well designed. The menu is good with typical German dishes. Good ambience with a wide range of guests from small families to drinkers at the bar. We marked it down because the service wasn’t quite as expected, for example our drinks (a beer and a glass of wine) came at different times and needed a reminder (for the wine). We sat upstairs and the two expresso coffee were cold by the time they came upstairs (despite a machine upstairs). They served them again and were fine. Would certainly return

We had a lovely Valentine’s evening at the German Gymnasium. Service was excellent, food was marvellous. We did not opt for the Valentines menu as it felt too restrictive as we had the normal menu.

We visited on Valentine’s Day, having also dined here last year, so we had a basis for comparison. The service was faultless overall and both the main course and dessert were excellent. We both opted for the tasting menu, with one of us choosing the wine pairing while the other, who doesn’t drink much chose not to. However a few things felt off. The menu wasn’t the easiest to read or understand and despite being clearly advertised as a tasting experience, it didn’t deliver as one. There was no bread course, no structured progression of dishes, and my partner’s three courses felt more like a set menu than a carefully curated sequence. The amuse-bouche was only provided with the wine pairing, meaning we had to share one between us, which is unusual and wasn’t made clear on the menu. My duck terrine was quite chewy in the middle, making it difficult to eat. On top of that, the wine pairing for that dish arrived quite late, after I had already eaten half of it. Upstairs, the lighting was quite bright, with no candles on the tables. Last year, there was a rose on our table, which added to the sense of occasion. The ambiance downstairs seemed much more inviting and I would have preferred to dine there. The space itself remains impressive, and the staff were wonderful and looked after us superbly. I’ll definitely be back, though not for Valentine’s Day.

I love the place but service was terrible today. Took 25 minutes and raising the issue with 3 waiters to get a drink. Ordered a side dish of fries with my main that never arrived and a chicken salad without anchovies that had them. All in all a very poor experience.

Lively restaurant. An exciting space. I like the voice of German food including schniztels. Beers and wines good too. Cakes / desserts okay too.

Decent enough food - I’ve been a few times. This occasion the waiting service was average. The food all came but glasses were left empty for long periods and we, had to get someone to place the food order. We were right next to the toilets and the occasional grim smells came wafting over.

Was really looking forward to a meal here. Acoustics were terrible. It was so noisy. Food was so so. Maybe I am spoilt as I lived in Germany for 7 years. I thought it expensive for what we had

Wonderful building! Food pretty good. Service a little slow at the end around getting deserts and bill. Perhaps could have more of a selection of non alcohol beers (German?). Overall good.
