From the start; the hostess was grumpy. No smile. No “good morning.” And most importantly no “Happy New Year!”. After telling her my last name and we had a 9:15 reservation she studied computer screen for moment and said “do you have a reservation? What’s your last name!” We had a toddler but she didn’t ask if we needed a high chair. Our waitress was fine. She brought the high chair and coffee right away. The coffee, luke warm at best and tasted like the beans they use are stale. Food was mediocre and mostly cold. Pancakes were hard, and the poached eggs were no longer runny. Most of the items under warming lights were not hot anymore. The head chef was nice. He greeted us at the egg station. The sous chef smiled and greeted us, and he took our grandson’s plate to the kitchen to put whipped cream on his (hard) pancakes. The chocolate in the chocolate fountain was watery and didn’t harden after coating our strawberries etc. It was $60 per person plus an automatic 18% tip applied because they considered us a large group - three plus a toddler is a large group? It was $244.00 in total. This is a Fairmont Hotel? We went there for New Years breakfast/brunch 10-15 years ago. The interior had not been renovated and showed it. In conclusion, it was a very disappointing restaurant experience to start 2025.

A once excellent restaurant has ... how to put it ... declined. Four of us had dinner. All are experienced cooks, caterers, and lovers of good food. We'd eaten there several times before and things were quite wonderful. I don't know what's happened but this meal was a 3/4 mess that ranged from tolerable to awful. The cauliflower steak was inedible. I've cooked variations on this dish and clearly whoever was doing the prep in the kitchen had no clue. It got "returned to sender" (and removed from the bill). The sirloin was, in the single-word review, "steak." At the prices charged it should be able to rise above that. My mussels were ... boring. Why fly them from PEI when the Western waters are bountiful is a mystery. And why is chorizo in this dish? The insightful diner who had the steelhead was quite happy with hers. Management needs to pay attention. Hire an executive chef who can whip this place back to where it once was.

Fairmont Hotel's Xmas Luncheon Buffet was outstanding; we loved it and will most likely go again. Overall, we do enjoy dining and their afternoon high tea - it never disappoints :) Try it; you'll love it too ! Linda & Gary

We enjoyed our Christmas Eve buffet at the Fairmont YVR. There was a good variety of food, but the price of drinks was very high. For the price per person, the overall quality of the food was not what we hoped for. Maybe we are too picky, but at almost $200 each (after taxes and tips), we were expecting a more elevated experience.
