Grünauer offers a classic Viennese gasthaus menu in the beautiful, historic Freighthouse. Located just north of Union Station in KC's premier dining and arts neighborhood- The Crossroads, Grünauer has been serving authentic Austrian and Central European cuisine since 2010 (with a focus on German and Hungarian as well). A beautiful biergarten, a gorgeous full bar and a lofted event space all add to the ambience and character of this KC classic. Make your reservation today! Classic dishes such as Hungarian beef gulasch (goulash), wiener schnitzel, apple strudel and more are always available. Frequent seasonal changes to our menu allow us to incorporate local produce, hiqh quality proteins and other items that are not available year round.

We used to like that place but the food was just soso. The potato and bread dumplings were tasteless and the crust on the pork was so tough, you couldn’t cut it. Sacher torte was dry. Red cabbage was the best thing they had.

We were at Grünauer for a small week-end family celebration. We made a reservation in advance for a mid-size group, including children. When we arrived, the service was prompt and the table we had requested was prepared in a very suitable area within the premises, with the accommodations we had asked for, which is an indication of their great internal communication. The overall service was outstanding, the atmosphere was family friendly and the staff was polite, considerate and obliging. Even the person taking care of the parking lot was friendly. And the food? Excellent!... Their bread, the salads, main courses (we tried their Weiner Schnitzel, Salzburger Schnitzel, and Ungatisches Rindsgulasch), and desserts were all delicious. We can tell good-quality ingredients were used. Thanks for making this visit a memorable occasion for our family. We highly recommend Grünauer and hope to have the opportunity to come back again in the near future.

We enjoyed the appetizers especially the salmon. Entrees came out right on time. We had a great time together. The food is excellent.

Everything was very good from the wine, bread and to our meals. It would be nice to have bread come without charge but the bread and butters were delicious. There was a good quantity of food for the price.
