   My husband and I always enjoy going to Halyards and having dinner at the bar. Last night, my husband couldn't attend due to a conflict, and I made reservations for a table in the dining room with two new friends that had never dined at Halyards. I arrived 10-15 minutes early to ensure that I was the first to arrive. Our table was not ready which I understood. But then after my guests arrived we waited an additional 30-40 minutes. Even after the previous diners had left, the table sat untouched and un-bussed for 5-10 minutes when I asked the hostess to please have someone clean the table so that we could sit down. Our server was quick to take a drink order. We informed him that my guests had never dined at Halyards before. Only one of us had a drink from the bar and the other two stuck with water. We ordered our food which was very good. I had the Virginia flounder, and the others had a cheeseburger and a special for the evening of bass over a bed of black beans and rice. Our server asked us right after the food was delivered if we had everything we needed and one friend asked for mayonnaise and I asked for another glass of wine from the bar. The wine came out immediately. However, the mayonnaise was never delivered and my two friends had empty water glasses for the majority of the meal. The server knew that it was their first time but apparently he had forgotten. As I said, I love to dine at Halyards, but this was not our best visit when it came to the service we received.

We strive to make sure all guests are seated in a timely matter, that our tables are clean as soon as the guest departs, and our service delivers a wonderful experience for the guest.    Such a pleasant evening…starting with drinks and apps at the bar. James and Max were attentive, personable and fun! Especially enjoyed the preparation of the grilled salmon.

   Good food, nice ambiance (as well as can be expected in the rear of the bar) decent service…. Fabulous wedge salad!!

   Not the experience it once was. Crowded, loud and bright. I felt like I was in a cafeteria. :(
