Welcome to Hart House, one of the lower mainland's finest dining experiences. Built in 1910, the locally renowned Tudor style heritage house is situated on two acres of gardens on Deer Lake. This idyllic country estate, is only 15 minutes from downtown Vancouver.
BC Restaurant Hall of Fame Proprietor and restaurateur Paul Smolen transformed the 'family home' into a restaurant in 1989.
Since then, Hart House has opened its doors to countless dining guests, newlyweds and corporate clients; offering culinary excellence, a well stocked wine cellar and friendly professional service.
Hart House has been inducted into the Burnaby Business Hall of Fame in October of 2014.

    All guests enjoyed their meals. My seafood pot pie was delicious, though I think there was cod, not halibut, in my dish as it tasted a bit fishy. At $32 it should have been amazing. Sam our server was very polite and attentive, though the restaurant wasn't busy an lunch time. I thought a 6 oz glass of wine was a bit pricey.

    The Hart House is a gem of Burnaby. The service staff is friendly and welcoming. The food is so good. Great value considering chains charge the same for less craft and quality. The location is special with fireplaces and private rooms. Always a great time.

    The restaurant seems to be struggling and I regret choosing it as a place to celebrate a birthday on my elderly father’s dime. The ambience is much the same - we hadn’t been there for about a year. However, our past ability to count on Harthouse for a reliable, higher-end meal that never disappoints has clearly passed. My husband made the best menu choice. He ordered from the set menu and tells me that overall he enjoyed the prawn salad and steelhead main course that he selected. Strangely though, the prawn salad was massive and it offered a sharp contrast to the scallop starter that my Dad and I ordered. The $28 starter (steep in my books) consisted of (3) small scallops supposedly nestled in a bed of lobster bisque. If I were a “Chopped” judge, I’d say that I didn’t pick up on the lobster at all!! The plate looked very spare otherwise with (3) tiny potatoes and some pea shoots. I was left feeling more hungry than when I started and thankfully I could raid my husband’s salad for extra prawns. Our server had offered us bread for the table when we ordered and even though I noticed there was a charge for it (that she didn’t mention), I was glad to know after the starter that it would be arriving soon. Little did I know that we would get (5) tiny slices of baguette and we’d need to arm wrestle for the 5th piece because there were three of us at the table. And that, combined with the extended wait for our main courses left me frustrated. There was an apology from the kitchen… but ok, maybe bring us more bread?! Apparently the otherwise near empty dining room, with just two tables occupied, was too much for the kitchen because of a private event dinner for about 20-30 people in an adjacent room. When our main courses arrived, my halibut on its own was a nice serving of fish. Unfortunately, the flavours that accompanied it were strange and not appetizing - it could have been the lobster bisque sauce (sans lobster) with capers and celery tossed in.

We sincerely apologize for the extended wait and understand how frustrating it must have been. While a private event did place added pressure on the kitchen, it’s our responsibility to ensure every guest receives timely service, and we fell short. Regarding the dishes, we’d like to clarify some details for accuracy. The halibut is served with beurre meunière, Parisian gnocchi, and Swiss chard, rather than a lobster bisque-based sauce.     I have been a client at the Hart House restaurant for many years and I have never been disappointed there. This is my restaurant of choice in Burnaby for special occasions, or just have an enjoyable meal with friends and/or family.

    We got the best table view (table #2). First time for me to visit even though I live close by. It’s a perfect place to have a brunch with an old friend as we can enjoy everything (ambience, food, service). Good service by Nur and the team. Good value too. Will visit again soon.

    An amazing place to celebrate special events. The food is exceptional. I was a bit quiet, i.e. there was no background music especially with the festive season coming along. I mean not loud music but some gentle background instrumentals. gentle music always stimulates the overall abmience
