At our Bistro du Vin York it's inspired by French home-style cooking with robust earthy dishes, and slow-cooked foods, Bistro du Vin's Gaelic influenced menu has an undeniably British flavour.
It's about enjoying moderately priced à la carte dining in a down-to-earth, warm and relaxing setting.
All served by attentive and knowledgeable waiting staff, happy to explain the dishes, the ingredients, and how our talented Chefs put them together. Always on hand, your Sommelier is ready to advise, guide, match or recommend the perfect wine.
As for the décor -think natural daylight, reclaimed dark-stained floorboards, framed pictures and paintings, soft lighting and comfortable chairs. This is Bistro du Vin. Bistro dining at its heart warming, mouth watering best.

Great meal, what a lovely place for an evening meal, the staff were attentive and knowledgable, really enjoyed it.

Staff were great, the place was very empty so no real ambiance though still very pleasant. The food was ok....fish and onion soups delicious, squid ink risotto just ok.

Starter was excellent (French onion soup) Steak was served cold and sent back. I am fairly sure when represented the steak had just been heated up again which dried it out. Not impressed and will not return there. When we arrived denied all knowledge of our booking through Opentable.

It’s rather quiet and very limited menu. It’s was all received well by the three of us but nothing to give the wow factor. Overall it’s decent but not fantastic

The second time I've eaten at a HdV recently, andyet again disappointed with the food. How do they get AA rosettes? Much better options in town.

I would not recommend Hotel du Vin in York to anyone! Absolutely disatrous anniversary event! These venues no longer have chefs - simply kitchen staff - as the food is delivered ready prepared by their suppliers! This means of course that no invdividual tastes can be catered for! My prawns still had their rear tract in them and my wife's duck egg had no support and thus it vanished through the hole in the wooden plate all over the table! The mains were no better (but much more expensive) than Cote, Cafe Rouge etc., The manager didn't want confrontation so offered us free desserts ! Sadly the event was already ruined! Fine dining it is not!

Went to the restaurant for our wedding anniversary as we stayed in York. Welcomed and asked where we wanted to sit (although busy). Waitress took time to chat and discuss wine and food, especially specials and her recommendations. Food and wine selection was excellent and service exceptional. Would recommend and certainly will head back there next time we are n York.

Very welcoming staff and great table with lovely atmosphere. The wine was great. Unfortunately, the food was below par and we had to send 2 starters back. Cheese board was very good. Would return for drinks and coffee but not food.
