Il Porcellino, located in the heart of River North in downtown Chicago, is a neighborhood restaurant offering classic Italian-American comfort food in a casual setting. Our seasonal menu focuses on housemate pastas, vegetable antipasti and daily specials, all crafted with ingredients sourced from quality artisans, purveyors, and local farmers. The fun and approachable wine program encourages sharing with selections primarily from Italy.

As a way to offset rising costs associated with the restaurant (food, beverage, labor, benefits, supplies), we have added a 3% surcharge to all checks. We do this in lieu of increased menu prices. You may request to have this taken off your check, should you choose.

Homemade Italian: traditional. Lasagna and ravioli were excellent! Service is very attentive and personable but not intrusive. Very busy and loud on a Friday night. I thought the entrees were a very good value. Again, food was excellent. Reminds me of when I was working in a small mom and pop Italian restaurant 40 years ago when all the pasta was made on site everyday. Delicious. Recommend.

Dinner was terrific. Started with excellent cocktails, Caesar salad and cheese bread. There were four of us and everyone enjoyed their entrées. The best part of the evening was our server, Lynn, who was knowledgeable and professional. If you go to this restaurant ask for her!

Food was good but not great. We had to wait more than 30 minutes to get our table, standing next to the entrance. A bit dark and noisy.

Wonderful restaurant, great food and low prices. The garlic bread was amazing. Very classical Italian.

Looked forward to a delicious business dinner with clients and found ourselves highly disappointed. The dish looked promising at first—a classic pasta with marinara sauce. But one bite, and it was clear: this was canned, bland Italian food at its finest. The pasta was overcooked to mush, lacking any of that satisfying al dente bite. The sauce tasted like it came straight out of a generic tin, with no real herbs or spices, just an underwhelming sweetness and a hint of metal. There was no fresh basil or garlic, just a mushy texture and a one-note tomato flavor. The cheese sprinkled on top barely melted, adding nothing but a reminder of what real Italian food should taste like. It was a meal that promised authentic flavor but delivered a pale imitation.

Food was excellent as was bar selection. Service could be a bit more attentive. But will be returning. Perhaps it was an off night for the server we had. The food will bring us back.

This is one of my favorite restaurants and my most visited. It's a great go-to, cozy Italian restaurant. I always get the garlic bread and eggplant parmesan. I recommended it to some out-of-town friends that were attending a show at Chicago Theater last year and they loved it and are returning again this Christmas season.
