SPIRITED DINING AND DRINKS IN SANTA FE

In 1882, Abraham Staab, a European immigrant who became one of Santa Fe’s most prosperous merchants, built a Victorian mansion on property that now belongs to La Posada. Abraham’s elegant wife, Julia, entertained local society and visiting dignitaries in incomparable style. Legend has it that Julia so loved her home that she has never left it.

Today, we celebrate Julia Staab as our muse and honor her name and legendary hospitality with the opening of Julia, A Spirited Restaurant & Bar. The restaurant features innovative, locally sourced dishes as well as an extensive selection of fine wines and spirits.

We went to Julia for Valentines day. The tables had white table cloths and little lamps on each table. The restaurant was full but it was still nice and quiet. I had the. Osso Bucco and my Fiancee had the Strip. Both were very good.

The overall experience dining at Julia was disappointing. The weight staff was very hard to understand, when they were explaining specials and trying to answer questions we had on the menu. The chicken dish that was ordered, at $40, was the worst piece of chicken we’ve ever had, so tough you couldn’t even chew it. Two of the menu items we wanted were not available, and such a short menu that was disappointing. After spending almost $400 for four adults and one child for this meal, I would say we were grossly overcharged for the service and food that we were served.

The same food that is at every other restaurant in Santa Fe. Like the classic meal for American's in 1970. Who ever this guy is who's destroyed the food scene in Santa Fe needs to stop.

The entrees were good and wonderfully presented. The restaurant was extremely cold as the doors to the hotel lobby adjacent to the dining room. Servers were polite but not at all attentive. I had to wave down our waitress for anything we needed. Appetizers were so so.

We had an amazing experience here a week ago with fabulous food & service so I made a reservation through Open Table for this Saturday and confirmed it as per normal. When we arrived, the hostess said there was no reservation. They were jam packed so she kindly seated the three of us in the bar at an unoccupied communal table next to the kitchen door. It was obviously NOT the experience we planned on. First time this has happened to me so worried about using Open Table from now on. Will certainly call the restaurant direct to confirm.

We ordered off of the bar menu because those selections were what we wanted. The margaritas were top notch and the key lime pie surprisingly was very good. We would definitely eat there again on our next trip to Sante Fe.

Christmas menu was a hit with our family. Yummy charcuterie to start, silky potato leak soup and spinach salad with candied nuts and pear, followed by falling-off-the bone Osso Bucco and creamy polenta. Even the desserts were perfect-bread-pudding, carrot cake or cheesecake. Excellent value and attentive service. We’ll be back again
