Kokkari (pronounced “Ko-Kar-ee”) is a small fishing village located on the islands of Samos in the Aegean Sea, whose name is derived from the small onions that were once produced in the nearby fields. Its fertile soil and Mediterranean climate translated into an abundance of fresh produce as well as treasured seafood and game. Legend tells that Kokkari is the site where Orion, a mighty hunter and a young man of gigantic stature and great beauty, fell in love with the daughter of the king of Chios. For the love of her, Orion forged the island for wild game and seafood to prepare elaborate banquets in celebration of their love. Be prepared to overspend! for two people, the cost of the meal and this was moderate was not worth the extraordinary cost - total bill for 3 cocktails 1 glass of $22 wine, small smelt appetizer shared, 1 salad shared which was quite ordinary, fish entree overcooked!!! and the special of day was simply leftover lamb BITS! too well done!! we shared one dessert, total cost of bill including 20% tip was $323.00!!! Just not worth it!! , I will never return here; the value was not there! There was not one part of the meal that I could say warranted the high cost especially of the entrees! a very disappointing experience. we've been to Greece and know what good Greek food tastes like,!! The food was very ordinary; not anything exceptional, Very Disappointed customers!

I love this restaurant. The food is fantastic, and the service is impeccable. My husband and I enjoyed the pork belly appetizer, the rotisserie duck and the lamb skewers. Everything was exceptional. Our server suggested the perfect wines to accompany our mains. I would highly recommend this restaurant to anyone visiting San Francisco. I only wish we lived closer so I could explore more of the menu.

We sat at a two person table near the front door. Every time the door opened, we could feel a rush of cold air. We had to keep our jackets on. Also, the hostess at the front door last night, not great. She let us stand there for at least a minute with no greeting while she was talking to another host. All it takes is, “Good Evening, we will be right with you”. On the other hand, our food was delicious and our server, Nica was great.

This was our second time at the restaurant and it was wonderful experience. Our first time was on the day we got engaged and this time we were celebrating we got married. The food was beyond delicious and service was great too. We actually had the same server as we had last time.

Always a great evening at Kokkari. The food was spectacular and the service was attentive and helpful. Our request to sit in the front room was graciously accommodated. Many thanks to the lovely hostess! Highly recommend!

Highly recommend. My husband and I spend part of every summer visiting Greece, in the Aegean. Our recent meal at Kokkari transported us back there for the evening. We had the roasted beets with skordalia, a seasonal citrus salad, the taramasalata, and the grilled fish with horta. Everything was fresh, delicious, seasonal, and exquisitely well executed. But I think what really distinguishes this meal, and so often Greek cuisine, is its simplicity. In this case, we couldn't stop raving about the beets and skordalia! Also, their wine list includes a number of greek wines that are difficult to find, especially on the West Coast. Lastly, their exceptional service made this experience truly memorable. Everyone made us feel so welcome, and happy to be there. They really captured the essence of Greek hospitality. Thank you for the xenia!
