This was an amazing expedience and the food was very good. The only thing I didn’t like was the lack of flexibility within the menu. I feel like I should be allowed to sub at least one item when paying five hundred dollars for food… especially when the items are available.

Please keep in mind that this is an Omakase restaurant. And that there are no ala carte menu items. Omakase leaves most of the dining choices to the chef. I had planned on ordering a ten course Omakase meal but found that only the full 18 course Omakase meal was available on weekends.

The food was good, for $200 per person 18 pieces Omakase was not bad. I also order some take out, take out was really expensive. 5 pieces nigiri & 3 small pieces maki was $100.

Overall the hot or cooked dishes tasted great; sushi pieces were ok; the yuzu and Shisho leaf sorbet with Hibiki whisky was a little disappointing. I really like the fried crab leg and beef in egg roll among the appetizers, and the grilled Gindara in the soup. The sorbet’s name is a little confusing and based on the item, it should be “yuzu sorbet with shisho leaf and Hibiki whisky”. Sushi rices are all small portion which is nice (less carb). Maybe can try the regular omakase and will have a better impression on sushi. The restaurant only charged me the 5% SF mandate, not the other 20%, but I still gave the same % of tip. Feels better by paying these tips when not being forced. Appreciate restaurants making this change!

The best sushi I’ve had in a while and I have had quite a few experiences living here in Hawaii. I would go to San Francisco just to eat at Kusakabe and come right back home. It was that good.
