About this restaurant

  • Neighbourhood gem
  • Charming
  • Good for special occasions
Tucked away in a brownstone on the Upper West Side, La Boite en Bois has been a favorite among diners since 1985. Family owned and operated, our attentive and well-trained staff will be sure to provide you with a memorable experience. As seen on Seinfeld, we are a short walk from Central Park, Lincoln Center, NYC Ballet, and the Metropolitan Opera.

With its rustic ambiance, diners are made to feel as though they are in a bistro in the French countryside. Serving classics from Escargot to Salmon to Roasted Duck to Mussels, you will be delighted with our extensive selections. We serve lunch everyday, with a variety of salads, soups, panini, and classic French dishes, such as Croque Monsieur, Seafood Crepes and Onion Soup. Come Saturday and Sunday for our Brunch, and enjoy Eggs Benedict, French Toast or a La Boite Burger.

We had a very lovely lunch. Place is a blast from the past, but food was very fresh and service was prompt.

The food was good but the service was sub par. A bit of French flair would have been nice for a French restaurant.

The food was super delicious! Potato leek soup and chicken in mushroom sauce - everything was melting in my mouth

We have eaten there for many years. Although it's changed over the years, the food is still good and the service is great.

Great dinner, but the people next to us were FaceTiming the whole time. Nothing the restaurant can do - just dispectful people

Food was good, but the salmon had way too much dressing. Tables are way too close and cramped, it was ok as it was late and there weren’t many diners, but if there were more diners, we would have been mere inches from other diners, and we could hear everything being said.

Delicious, friendly, and comfy as always. Without being rushed, we easily made our theater curtain.

Authentic French menu and place, even some of the staff is French. I am French and it's not always easy to find real places that make you feel at home. The prices are reasonable for that neighborhood, and the quality is definitely there. Small, intimate place (you better make a reservation, especially on weekend nights) with a nice ambiance and very friendly staff. All is good on the menu, and the highlight is a small but select, inexpensive wine list. Will definitely go back !

Ate early so not busy or noisy. Tables are very close so that is a potential problem. Our food was excellent, good value for NYC. Have been here several times and return whenever I go to opera or museums above 59th Street
