We are at La Bottega last night. It was a very bad experience. First, they sat us at a table next to a sliding door that was ajar. It's warm in Vail now, but the wind flowing in from the door required us to keep our jackets on throughout dinner. Then the food - the ahi tuna smelled disgusting and was inedible. The pasta carbonara had little to no taste. The bright spot was the GF chocolate cake we had for dessert. The waiters were very nice and helpful, but this place has gone downhill. Not worth the money.

Food was fine, kids were excited about spaghetti but it had more flavor from a jar. Pizza was fine. The wagyu short ribs…my Chuck roast crock pot has more flavor. The wine was nice, the antipasto salad was excellent and the truffle mashed potatoes were the best dish on the entire table. The value for the cost and flavor are not worth it.

We love La Bottega. We try to make reservations every time we are in Vail. We almost always end up at a high-top table for 2. I actually prefer it because it is by the windows, and we can watch the kitchen. This visit seemed "off" from previous trips. It is the beginning of spring break, so I asked the server if they've been swamped, since it seemed quite busy. She told us that it was a rather average night. Maybe she had to watch too many tables. Our wine arrived almost at the end of the salad course. The salad dressing was so tart that I couldn't finish it (oil/vinegar ratio was off). I ordered the mussels, which are advertised on the menu as a very large bowl, and they aren't kidding! So many mussels that the broth (which was delicious!) was inaccessible until after much shelling. The portion could easily serve 2-3 people as a main entree. Unfortunately, they were way too salty. Coarse sea salt was scattered across the shells, but too much of it. My husband had veal scallopini, which was phenomenally good. The prices have increased since our last visit (osso bucco for $65, probably double the previous price). No wonder we saw so many people ordering pizzas ($22) !! We had our usual excellent time, and we will still go back in the future. I'm not ready to write them off after one slightly disappointing visit!!

I used to live La Bottega- 42.00 for chicken parm???? 20 dollar glass of wine had a good 1/2 inch of sediment in it. When I asked floor manager if there was anything they could do as my last sip of wine was a mouthful of sediment. She replied “sorry- we sell a lot of that wine and that happens…I’m happy to give you a little bit in a new glass”. How about a whole new glass of wine? Or comp it? I guess I expected more from Bottega. As a local, I brought all of my guests and relatives there- no more.

An overall below average experience. Food was expensive and full with arugula with balasamic dressing. Very small portions and extremely expensive for the quality of the food. The service was great.
