Since 1972, this charming upscale French restaurant has an atmosphere of a private home throughout. Located in the heart of fashionable Saratoga, it has been owned and operated by the Masek family almost four decades!
Renowned for its attention to service and excellent cuisine, la Mère Michelle is a superb combination of traditional ambiance with every modern amenity. Each dining area is decorated in a different style to give an overall impression of comfort and refinement.

Pretty unimpressed. Went here for Valentine’s Day. They have no cocktail menu. Service was slow. Caesar salad had WAY too much dressing. Steak was not cooked properly. Asked for medium rare and it was rare. Potatoes were cold. The place felt like a retirement home.

We had to make last minute New Year’s Eve reservations, and it should have been a red flag that there were so many openings at La Mère Michelle. Service was very slow. It took nearly 45 minutes for us to get drinks and our bread basket. The waiter seemed scattered and dropped off our unopened bottle of wine to rush back for plates for another table. Our soups (carrot and French onion) and appetizers (pâté and smoked salmon), were good, but our duck entrees were abysmal. We got both the classic style with cherry sauce and the sesame one. The entire plate of food was lukewarm, and the sauce was thick and gloppy. The scalloped potatoes were slopped into the plate and congealed. The baby carrots looked like they came straight out of the plastic bag, but they had a decent flavor. The green beans were cold and shriveled. It was very disappointing for the price. Lastly, we ordered coffees, and they were also lukewarm. The atmosphere was 1980’s dated, with ruffled dust-collecting drapery and dead flower swags. This place has seen its day. We were not impressed and won’t return.

It was a pleasure to have Christmas Eve dinner at La Mere Michelle. We appreciated the warm, friendly, welcome when we arrived. The French Onion Soup was delicious, complete with a thick layer of cheese. The Chicken Tarragon entree was the best I've ever had with a Tarragon reduction that was divine. My family member ordered the Chicken Forestiere with wild mushroom cream, also delicious. Both entrees had plenty of sauce unlike some restaurants that only provide a few tablespoons, were served with green beans and scalloped potatoes, and were pleasantly filling. We didn't leave hungry. A slice of chocolate hazelnut cake with excellent flavor finished the meal.

Very surprised that such a large place was practically empty on a Saturday night. Three tables were occupied and it was noisy. The waiter was courteous and efficient. Unfortunately the food was not equal to its cost.

We had the best Thanksgiving dinner. The turkey along with all the trimmings were amazing and the pumpkin pie with whipped cream was so delicious. Our waiter was Moe and he is by far the best server in town.

Petite filet mignon was excellent and perfectly cooked. Weinerschnitzel is a consistent performer. Our waiter is just phenomenal, knows when to approach and serves with a smile.

Very nice meal, they weren't too busy. Food came out perfectly cooked (had the filet, medium and shrimp dish). The French Onion soup was phenomenal! Really, really delicious. I definitely will go again, just for the soup!

We have enjoyed La Mere Michelle for 28 years, sitting by the front window enjoying the fresh air and big portions of yummy French country food. I think now is the time to hire a new greeter though, as the original owner, a lovely lady, whom is no longer able to do the job she did for all those many years, and they definitely need more help.
