Beauty & Essex has an innovative design that starts in the restaurant’s entrance, a well-curated modern-day pawn shop replete with a saxophone, boom­box, quirky artifacts, vintage treasures, and an eclectic array of “one-off” pieces of jewelry. Continuing past the pawnshop, guests encounter a grand, circular staircase wrapped around a two-story custom chandelier, but only the adventurous will discover all that Beauty & Essex has to offer. With four distinct dining rooms (one private), two bars, a lounge, and a women’s bathroom complete with a salon including a luxurious sofa, and antique perfume bottles. The cuisine, much like the design, is intended to set a new course.     Really creative cuisine in a fun atmosphere with an interesting mixed crowd. Funky pawnshop entrance is a blast. Try the tuna tacos, the Peruvian chicken, the espresso martini (not on the drinks menu but it should be), the beets, so many more interesting choices we wanted to say give us one of each. But leave room for dessert. The service was really kind and helpful. Prompt but not intrusive. Understood our whims.

    This is an excellent restaurant. Yes, it’s shiny and bright and you might think it’s going to be a restaurant more about the visuals than the victuals. Guess what? The fish is amazingly fresh and the service is exceedingly good. And the presentation of the food is as impressive as the decor.

    Never ceases to impress. I make it a point to bring friends with me so that I can order multiple dishes which I have never tried before. We ordered at least six menu items on a recent visit and every one was superb. Their pizza is my favorite in all of Brooklyn. Definitely my "go to" place to dine when I travel to Brooklyn on business.
