Le Blackfriars a été élu meilleur restaurant aux North East England Tourism Awards en 2013. Occupant un ancien couvent médiéval chargé d'histoire, fondé en 1239, le restaurant a servi de réfectoire pour les moines, ce qui en fait une des plus anciennes salles de restauration construite au Royaume-Uni.
