Le Central is a French bistro, focusing on modern interpretations of classic dishes featuring local products from Sakonnet Lobsters, Four Town Farm (Seekonk, MA), Walker's Farm (Barrington, RI), Scott the Bassman, and Little Rhody Eggs (Foster, RI). Low lighting, checkerboard floor tiling, glass tabletops, and French nu-Jazz provide an intimate yet warm and familiar atmosphere. Chef-owner Jesse James spent his early career in Boston, working with chefs Moncef Meddeb at L'Espalier and Jasper White at Jasper's, with further experience at other landmark restaurants in New York, France, and Italy. Le Central is the third restaurant he has designed, built, and operated, after Aperto (Est 1992) and Boca Rotis (Est 1997), both in San Francisco. The large painting by Inez Storer on the south wall of the restaurant (which also serves as our logo) is of Jesse's son, Sam (the current General Manager & Beverage Director), and his childhood dog, Skye. Inez wouldn't say who the guy in the chair is.

Leo’s was first opened in 1948 by Italian immigrants Pantaleone (Leo) Mancieri and his wife Virginia (Nonni). Established mainly as a pizzeria in the State Street section of Bristol, the restaurant quickly gained a local following and served as a popular lunch destination for workers and families alike. Leo and Virginia, along with sons Mario and Reno, worked tirelessly to produce great fresh Italian favorites and create a friendly environment for their customers.The original Leo’s remained open until 1976 when the family decided to close after Leo passes away, and in the year 2000 Leo’s grandson, Paul Mancieri, relocated to 365 Hope Street in the heart of historic downtown Bristol.     Birthday luncheon with a spectacular Lobster Salad, nice glass of wine and a wonderful piece of swordfish. The desert cookie with chocolate gelato was the perfect ending. Our server (Kristen?) was very attentive and cheery. A beautiful view and a great meal.

    Great location in a former industrial facility. Reservation highly recommended on weekends -- we were there at 2 pm on a Saturday and it was PACKED. LOTS of families. Ample, safe parking on the site, but may have to walk about a block from the farther reaches of the industrial area's parking lots on a busy day. Service was efficient and pretty fast (don't want to rush that pizza). Pizza selection was very good and reasonably priced. Italian entrees were also very good and generously-sized. The beer and wine selection was good and moderately priced ($8-9 for a 12-ounce beer, $10/40 for wine glass/bottle). Some very fun venues located in the same area (brewery, distillery/tasting room, coffee roasters/shop, vegetarian restaurant).

    Le Central was phenomenal. The food was great, we were served promptly and professionally, and all of the individuals we spoke to were kind. We had a little bit of everything; seafood, filet, wine, chocolate bread pudding - it was all delicious. My wife and I definitely recommend to anyone looking for a place for a nice date.
