Michael Bong didn’t come to Japanese cooking along the obvious route – he’s Korean, for one – but now that he has, he’s certainly making the most of it. Tomodachi Izakaya & Bar on Little Malop Street in the centre of Geelong is a tribute to the corner bars of Tokyo, with a focus on japanese tapas and warm dishes mates that come off it. That results in top-notch pork belly, beef and chicken thighs for the meat-eaters and salmon, prawns and scallops for the fish fans as well as beancurd and vegetables for the vegetarians. Aside from the grill, there is also an astounding array of sushi and sashimi dishes, octopus pancake balls, salt and pepper squid, alongside dessert options and a long cocktail menu that befits all the best, boozy backstreet izakaya joints in Japan.     Our experience was amazing. We went to Frankie’s for our friends birthday and tried their bottomless brunch. It was amazing. The food was delicious, the drinks were amazing and the service was fantastic. It was a great experience and something i would love to do again.

    We have a two course theatre meal and both plates were excellent. Barramundi starter was very tasty while the main course was well presented, good serving size and again as with the first course a delight to saviour. My partner also comment on the quality of her dishes that were different to my selection. Overall very pleased, and timing was just right and finished at a time that allowed a leisurely walk to the Arts Centre. Staff were helpful and knowledge about the courses provided. Only draw back was their menu prices on the web were outdated but the amounts charged to us were honoured rather than printed published prices. Nevertheless the prices as per now are very competitive and represent good value.

    food was amazing, servings are big table was too small for our group of four, which made relaxing during the meal difficult. Also they were very understaffed, hence we had to wait around 25-30 mins just to receive our drinks. staff were lovely though and were trying their best
