Chef Olea creates sophisticated flavors using Old Mexico’s indigenous and culinary traditions alongside ingredients from around the world. His menu is deliberately small, featuring fresh and locally sourced produce and meats when possible.Nothing evokes the mystery of Mexican cuisine more than mole, a sauce of complex flavors that usually includes toasted and ground spices, seeds, nuts, chocolate and chile. Many mole recipes contain more than thirty ingredients and some recipes have five varieties of chile alone. Chef Olea is delighted to share his moles that include his "New Mexican Mole" that he created to commemorate Santa Fe’s 400 year anniversary in 2009. The large mural in the main dining room, was painted and presented to Chef Olea by Federico Leon De La Vega, a well- known artist from Mexico City.

Dinner at Santacafe is always pleasant. Service is attentive and helpful with suggestions. Quietly available to refill wine glasses or remove unneeded plates. Scallops with mushroom risotto was delicious and perfectly prepared. The pork chop was perfectly cooked. Don’t overlook the apple and fig salad. Beautiful presentation and the vinaigrette was perfectly balanced with the fruit. Highly recommend this favorite of mine.

Dining at Izanami is nothing short of exceptional, and a few standout dishes truly elevate the experience. Spicy Cucumber & Avocado Salad – A refreshing start to the meal, this salad is the perfect balance of crisp and creamy. The cucumbers bring a bright, cooling crunch, while the avocado adds a silky richness. Tossed in a delicately spicy dressing, every bite is vibrant, with just the right amount of heat to awaken the palate. Crispy Spicy Tuna – This dish is a masterpiece. The contrast between the crispy rice and the buttery, spicy tuna is divine. Each bite offers a satisfying crunch, followed by the bold umami of the tuna, enhanced by just the right amount of spice. It’s the kind of dish that lingers on your mind long after the meal. Izanami’s Famous Smoked Pork Ribs – Simply put, these ribs are unforgettable. Slow-smoked to perfection, they fall off the bone with ease, carrying a deep, smoky flavor that’s rich yet perfectly balanced. The glaze provides a slightly sweet and savory umami finish that keeps you coming back for more. This is comfort food elevated to an art form. Hōjicha Panna Cotta – A perfect ending to the meal. The roasted hōjicha tea infuses the panna cotta with a warm, nutty depth, setting it apart from any ordinary dessert. It’s luxuriously smooth, delicately sweet, and paired with just the right accents to highlight its earthy, caramelized flavors. A must-try for anyone who appreciates a refined, yet comforting dessert. From start to finish, Izanami delivers an experience that is both innovative and deeply satisfying. Every dish is thoughtfully crafted, highlighting fresh, high-quality ingredients with a balance of flavors and textures that keep you coming back. Whether you’re a first-time visitor or a returning guest, these selections are an absolute must-try.

Needed to take a friend for a pre-concert birthday dinner-- and then found out it was Restaurant Week -- NOT my favorite time to go out to eat! Then found out from our extremely nice and professional server (sorry I can't remember her name) that we could also order from the regular menu. Our bill ended up near the same -- but we had 2 wonderful courses of our choice rather than 3 courses from a limited menu. I think the cholula has improved; the note I made the last time I went was that "it sounded better than it was." I had a couple of bites of my friend's order, and it tasted wonderful. I had the duck breast, which was cooked to scientific perfection -- fully cooked but not a minute more for a wonderful texture. Who knew the same combination in a dessert -- poblano mole ice cream, beet garnish and sweet potato chips --could taste so good and not weird? The ambiance, the food and the service -- worth every penny and calorie. In a different class than all the other "destination restaurants" I've experienced in Santa Fe.

We drove to Santa Fe from Albuquerque to try La Boca for Valentine’s Day. As you can assume it was quite packed and the restaurant is not very large, but all of the servers and staff in the restaurant were very attentive and kind. We were talked through the Sherry Flight, and tried the 3 course tasting menu. First course was a soup or salad, so we ordered one of each. The main was a chorizo, goat cheese and chili sandwich, and dessert was a chocolate mousse. The spoon was a little larger for the mousse vessel but it was quite funny trying to figure out how to get everything out of the container. We even made acquaintances with the table next to us. Overall it was a nice time, I’d love to go back on a less busy day!
