Mushrooms are the heart of what we do at the Joel Palmer House. We have always endeavored to obtain seasonal and local ingredients and we use many locally produced greens, herbs, and vegetables, some of which come from our own culinary garden. We are frequently inspired by ingredients found in the cuisines of France, China, Thailand, Poland and India, so we call our cooking "freestyle." Our dishes pair well the celebrated wines of Oregon, especially Pinot Noir, Pinot Gris and Chardonnay. Our extensive, Oregon-focused wine list has been awarded the Best of Award of Excellence from Wine Spectator. Of special note, The Joel Palmer House ranks as one of Oregon's finest historic homes and is on the National Register of Historic Places and the Oregon Historic Register. Built in 1857, the house is Dayton's oldest standing structure. This is one of the best (top 5) Italian restaurants in the valley. The food the service and the decor were all top notch. We had a lovely lunch with starter, pasta and dessert. Looking forward to trying a dinner next.

What a great meal. From the very first dish, (just a sesame English muffin with koji butter, but astonishingly good,) to dessert, I was blown away. The Parisian gnocchi and the citrus salad were both out of this world. Chef’s Kari, Soren, Jon, and their kitchen team have outdone themselves with the very fun, limited-run Breakfast for Dinner Menu. Throw Dry January to the side for a night because the wine pairings were perfect. We drank our way through the glass pour options while we ate and the wines were delicious and fit seamlessly. Our server Lauren put the wine list together and clearly knows what she’s doing. I can’t wait for my next opportunity to eat at Hayward. Thank you to the whole team for creating such a great experience.

We are locals and this is our favorite restaurant in McMinnville. As always, the food was excellent and we love the ambience. The wait staff is friendly and efficient. My wife had her favorite - wild salmon - and was not disappointed. I had a bean stew with several kinds of meat plus a duck leg and thigh - very nice. We'll be back!
